Hand of Fate 2 Review

March 20, 2021

I’ve always found the concept of fantasy roleplaying interesting. And I’m not just talking about in video games, either. This especially extends to tabletop roleplaying games. The idea of that immersive escape from reality is appealing in an odd way because it somehow fills a void that doesn’t actually exist.

There’s really no need for any of us to take on the role of a fantasy character such as a knight, an elf or a dwarf. We don’t really need to become an ogre slayer and none of us will starve if we can’t one day become the hero of a village. But, something about the concept is just super satisfying. I can’t put my finger on WHY I like to pretend I’m wandering a strange, make-believe world as a dragon-slaying elf. But, I just know that I love every minute of it.

And sometimes it makes me wonder how the guys behind D&D came up with the idea. It’s pretty awesome stuff and there’s a lot of thought behind it. I’m sure the conception of the idea would have my mind blown. But, to be honest, while I’ve played some tabletop games before, I never really ventured into D&D. Mostly because I’ve heard of situations where it’s gotten a little out of hand but also because I never wanted to be stuck with being the game master which would probably happen in my case, I’m sure. It would be nice to be able to roleplay without a DM.
